Healthy & Traditional authentic dish from my native Karwar Togari Bele (Toor Dal) Patrode, this can be served with lunch, dinner or can also be served as a snack. The main ingredient is toor dal (Togari Bele in kannada), raw rice, cabbage, onion, coconut and Indian spices. Tastes great with dal, sambar, rasam rice or by itself.
Ingredients:
· Toor Dal – 1 cup
· Cabbage - Half (medium sized)
· Onion – 2 medium sized
· Garlic – 3-4 cloves
· Raw rice – ¾ cup
· Grated coconut- ¾ cup
· Coriander seeds - 2 tbsp
· Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
· Fenugreek seeds - ¼ tsp
· Red chillies – 3-4 nos.
· Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
· Tamarind - Lemon sized
· Jaggery - 2 tbsp
· Salt to taste
· Oil for shallow frying
Method:
· Soak toor dal and rice together for 2-3 hours.
· Slightly roast the coriander seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and red chillies with very little oil.
· Now take a mixer jar add grated coconut, roasted ingredients, turmeric powder, tamarind, jaggery and garlic. Grind it till the ingredients are crushed nicely.
· Now along with the coconut mixture add the soaked toor dal and rice, grind it. Don’t make a fine paste. Don’t add too much water.
· Now pour this in a plate, add chopped cabbage and onions. Don’t chop it very fine. Add salt. Mix it well.
· Now heat a pan and on a medium flame and start making the patrode’s.
· Take a medium sized ball in your hand and put it on the tawa and give it a round shape using your fingers.
· Put oil on the sides and cover and cook it. Later flip it and put oil again.
· Cook till you get nice golden colour. Your Patrode is ready to be served.
