NEERPHANAS RAVA FRY (BREADFRUIT RAVA FRY)

My most favourite fry, Neerphanas known as Bread fruit

Getting this vegetable in Mumbai is not easy and the season starts now. Whenever I visit my native Karwar we enjoy having this.

Now I get to eat this every year being in Mumbai too, Thanks to my Dodappa (Uncle) for sharing this yummilicous Breadfruit every year with my family.

He had taken the initiative to plant the tree and has nurtured it with utmost care, because of which all our family members are able to relish it.

Ingredients:

· Breadfruit

· Tamarind paste

· Chili powder

· Turmeric powder

· Hing

· Salt

· Rava

· Oil

Method:

· Wash the breadfruit and cut into halves. Then cut the halves into quarters. Using a peeler or knife, peel the breadfruit and remove the central core. Then cut the breadfruit into slices.

· Apply tamarind paste, chili powder, turmeric powder, hing and salt to the breadfruit slices and keep aside for 10-12 minutes.

· Take a small plate, mix rava, turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt.

· Heat a frying pan and spread oil on it.

· Coat the sliced breadfruit in rava and arrange the rava coated slices on the frying pan one by one.

· Spread oil from the sides of the pan. Cover and cook on medium flame.

· In between, sprinkle 1 tsp water by hand over the breadfruit slices, cover and cook to speed up cooking.

· After few minutes, flip to the other side, spread oil once again and fry for few more minutes.

· You can poke the centre with a knife or spoon, to check whether the breadfruit is cooked and if it gets cut easily then it’s done.

· Enjoy this with any curry of your choice as an accompaniment.
