Navratri Day 2 Oct 2024 : Curd Rice


💚The colour of the day is green, which represents harmony and growth.💚 The second day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Brahmacharini, who is known for her penance and is believed to bless her devotees with power, strength, wisdom, and knowledge.🙏

Curd Rice, South India's ultimate comfort food where the soft cooked mushy rice is simply mixed with curd (Indian yogurt), salt & tempered with Indian spices. Curd rice is also known as thayir sadam or daddojanam or mosaranna in some South Indian languages.

Ingredients:

· Cooked rice – 1 cup

· Curd – 1 cup

· Milk – ¼ cup (if curd is too much sour)

· Green chillies – 1-2 (finely chopped)

· Ginger – 1 inch (finely chopped)

· Grated carrot – ¼ cup (optional)

· Coriander leaves (finely chopped)

· Pomegranate arils – 2 tbsp (optional)

· Sugar – 1 tsp

· Salt


For the tempering:

· Oil – 1 tbsp

· Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

· Udid dal -1 tsp

· Channa dal – 1 tsp

· Dried red chilli – 1-2 (broken)

· Curry leaves – 1 sprig

· Asafoetida – ¼ tsp


Method:

· Take a large bowl with cooked mushy rice in it, add curd, milk, green chillies, ginger, grated carrot, pomegranate arils, sugar, salt and coriander leaves.

· Heat oil in a small tempering utensil and add the mustard seeds.

· When they start crackling, add the dals and sauté until golden.

· Add red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida.

· Pour the tempering on the rice and serve cold with papad and pickle.

Coriander leaves, Cucumber and carrots for garnishing.
