Narak Chaturdashi Special from my Native Karwar - 5 varieties of Poha

Happy Diwali & Laxmi Poojan to all of you

Today is Narak Chaturdashi, so we make 5 varieties of Poha for early morning Naivedya.

1. Payasad Avalakki (Kheer Poha), 2. Dahi Avalakki (Poha):, 3. 4Bellad Avalakki (Sweet Poha),

4. Masala Avalakki (Poha) and 5. Chivda.




1. Payasad Avalakki (Kheer Poha)

· Take around ¾ cup grated coconut and 3-4 cardamom in a mixer jar.

· Add milk and grind it.

· Now transfer this mixture in a bowl add jaggery as per your requirement and very little salt. Mix it well.

· Now wash 4 tbsp of thin poha in running water and add this poha to the jaggery mixture.

· Payasad Avalakki is ready for naivedyam.

3. Bellad Avalakki (Sweet Poha)

· Take a cup of grated coconut and add jaggery to it. Mix it well with your fingers.

· Add 1-2 tbsp of ghee and ¾ tsp cardamom powder. Mix it well.

· Now start adding poha to it, use your fingers to mix it well.

· Bellad avalakki is ready to be served.


4. Masala Avalakki (Poha)

Ingredients:

· Thin Poha as per your requirement

· Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp

· Cumin seeds – 1 tsp

· Fennel seeds – 1 tsp

· Cloves – 2-3

· Grated coconut – ¾ cup

· Red chili powder - 2 tsp

· Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp

· Jaggery or sugar as per your requirement

· Very little salt to taste

Method:

· Take a tempering pan, add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds and cloves. Dry roast till it tuns aromatic. Turn off the flames once it turns aromatic. Let it cool down completely. Now use a mortar pestle to crush it.

· Now take a big bowl, take coconut in it, on one side add the tempered spices, red chili powder, turmeric powder, mix jaggery/ sugar and salt to it. Mix it well with your fingers and mix this well with the coconut.

· Now slowly add the thin poha as per your requirement. Mix it well.

· Serve this poha with sev or chivda for breakfast or evening snack.
