MOONG DAL USLI

This is a simple protein filled breakfast from my native Karwar. In this recipe, the lentil is cooked and then seasoned with the basic ingredients.

There are many other ways of doing it as well, few soak it overnight or few just soak it for 15-20 mins. The dal is cooked in the seasoning, and the soaked lentil is cooked in water.




Ingredients:

· Moong Dal - 1 ½ cup (small one)

· Oil/ Ghee – 1 tbsp

· Mustard seeds – ½ tsp

· Hing - 2 pinches

· Green chilies – 1-2 slit

. Grated ginger - ½ tsp

· Curry leaves – 1 sprig

· Salt

· Sugar – 2 tsp

· Grated coconut – 1 tbsp

· Chopped coriander leaves


Method:

· Wash the moong dal and cook it in 4-5 cups of water.

The dal should be well cooked but still hold its shape (You can check it by pressing it between your fingers). Now drain it and keep it aside.

· Heat oil/ ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds. Once the mustard seeds crackle, add hing, green chilies, grated ginger and curry leaves.

· Now add the cooked and drained moong dal.

· Add salt, sugar, garnish with grated coconut and coriander leaves. Give a good mix and turn off the flame.

· Serve it hot for breakfast or as evening snack.
