Panchakajjaya is a festive delicacy usually made as naivedyam mostly during Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmashtami or a number of occasions as an offering to God. There may be a slight variation in each household.
Ingredients:
· Gram Dal (Dalia/ Putana) – 2 cups
· Sugar – 1 ½ cup
· White sesame seeds – 2 tbsp (roasted)
· Dry ccoconut – 3-4 tbsps
· Ghee – 1 tbsp
· Cardamom Powder – 1 tsp
Method:
· Dry roast sesame seeds until they start to splutter and keep them aside.
· Slightly roast the dry coconut and keep it aside.
· Slightly roast the gram dal for few minutes. Let it cool.
· Once cooled add the roasted gram dal and sugar in a mixer jar. Just grind it for few seconds. Do not make a fine powder. Keep it coarse.
· Pour this in a mixing bowl. Add the sesame seeds, roasted coconut, ghee and cardamom powder. Give a good mix.
· Dry Panchakajjaya is ready to be kept for naivedya.
· Generally dry and wet panchakajjaya is mixed together while it is distributed as prasad.
