Ingredients:
· Chana dal (Split Bengal Gram) – ½ cup
· Water – 2 cups
· Jaggery (adjust as per your taste) – ½ - ¾ cup
· Coconut milk – ¾ cup (thick)
· Cashew nuts (broken) – 10 -12
· Salt – less than ¼ tsp
· Cardamom Powder – ¼ tsp
· Ghee – 1 tbsp
Method:
· Wash the chana dal thoroughly, and soak it for 1 hour.
· Soak the cashew nuts in hot water for 15-20 mins.
· Now take a pressure cooker add the drained chana dal. Add water and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.
· Once the cooker de pressurizes naturally add the jaggery to the cooked chana dal and cashew nuts.
· Add little salt and give a good mix. Let the chana dal cook in jaggery for 5-7 mins. Keep it on medium low flame. Keep stirring occasionally.
· Finally add the ghee and cardamom powder. Give a good mix and turn off the flame.
· Chana Dal Payasam is ready to be offered as naivedyam.
