BREAD USLI/ UPMA

My sunkissed frame, call it Bread Usli or Upma. A quick and easy recipe to empty any leftover bread. A nice breakfast, tea time snack which is made by tossing in small sized bread pieces along with flavourful seasoning. There are various versions of preparing bread upma, this is what I have learnt from my mother and have been relishing this since childhood days.

Ingredients:

· Bread slices – 10-12

· Grated coconut – ½ cup

· Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp

· Salt

· Sugar – 1 tsp

· Ghee – 1 tbsp

· Mustard seeds – ¾ tsp

· Dried red chillies – 1-2 broken

· Curry leaves – 1 sprig

· Cumin seeds – ¾ tsp

Method:

· In a small plate add grated coconut, turmeric powder, salt and sugar. Combine it well using your fingers. Keep this mixture aside.

· Heat ghee and add mustard seeds and dried red chillies.

· Once the mustard seeds crackle, add curry leaves and cumin seeds.

· Now add the coconut mixture and sauté for 1-2 mins.

· Now add the bread pieces and mix it well on low flame. Sauté it for few minutes till the bread pieces turn hot.

· Serve it for breakfast or as evening snack.
