Batata Poha is a mouth watering and yummy traditional recipe from Maharashtrian cuisine, usually served for breakfast or even as a snack. I have served with Masala chai ☕.
Ingredients:
· Pressed rice (Thick Poha) – 2 cups
· Ghee/Oil – 2 tbsp
· Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
· Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
· Slit or chopped green chilies – 2 or 3
· Chopped ginger - ½ tsp
· Few curry leaves
· Boiled and diced potatoes (optional) – 1 cup
· Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
· Salt to taste
· A pinch of Sugar
· Freshly grated coconut – 1.5 tbsp
· Lemon juice
· Finely chopped Coriander leaves
Method:
· Wash the poha or pressed rice under running water or soak for less than a minute, drain excess water and leave it aside for 4-5 minutes.
· Heat oil/ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds and once they splutter, add cumin seeds and sauté for half a minute.
· Add green chilies, chopped ginger, curry leaves and turmeric powder. Add the boiled and diced potatoes. Sauté it well.
· Now add salt, and the poha/pressed rice. Add sugar and mix well.
· Squeeze lemon juice and add freshly grated coconut and . Mix well.
· Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
