AMBODE (Navratri Special)

Year 2022:

Mahagauri or the wife of Lord Shiva is depicted as extremely fair-complexioned, wearing white clothes and holding a trident and 'damru'. She represents peace, intelligence and wisdom. The colour of the day on Maha Ashtami - Day 8 of Navratri is peacock green. The colour is a symbol of uniqueness, individuality, compassion, and freshness.


Year 2023:

Navratri Day 8: 💜The  colour is Purple. This colour is associated with spirituality, wisdom, and higher consciousness.💜 Adorning oneself in purple on this day is a way to connect with the serene and pure energies of MahaGauri. 🙏🌹The eighth day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Mahagauri. Worshipping the goddess is believed to bring peace, compassion and purity into one's life. 🙏🌹


Ambode is a Masala Vada prepared during any festive occasion in the region of Karnataka. It is almost the first choice of spicy snacks when it comes to festivals or festive occasions in Karnataka. Today’s offering is Ambode served with coconut chutney.

Ingredients:

· Split Bengal Gram (chana dal) - 1 cup (Soaked)

· Green chilli - 4-5 (your preference)

· Ginger - 2 inch

· Fresh Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp (finely chopped)

· Curry leaves – 2 tbsp (chopped)

· Grated Coconut – ½ cup

· Rava - 2 tbsp

· Hing – ¼ tsp

· Salt

· Oil for frying

Method:

For Dal Vada

· Wash and soak the chana dal for 2-3 hours in water.

· Take roughly about 1 tablespoon of soaked chana dal separately and keep it aside.

· In a mixer jar, add soaked chana dal, green chillies, ginger and grind it all together coarsely. Remember not to add water while grinding.

· Transfer the coarsely ground chana dal mixture to a bowl and to it add, kept aside chana dal, curry leaves, coriander leaves, grated coconut, rava, hing and finally add salt. Mix well.

· Take the vada mixture on a palm and make vadas by flattening it a little on your palm.

· Heat the oil and fry the vadas on medium high flame until crisp and golden brown in colour.

· Ambode are ready to be offered to the Goddess as Naivedyam. Generally, Payasam is also served along with Ambode.
